Joe Bageant, 1946-2011

After a vibrant life, Joe Bageant died yesterday following a four-month struggle with cancer. He was 64. Joe is survived by his wife, Barbara, his three children, Timothy, Patrick and Elizabeth, and thousands of friends and admirers. He is also survived by his work and ideas.

---- I didn't always agree with Joe but he had a vivid memorable way with words.

I think Fred had an interesting take on Joe:

Fred's another one with the gift of pen.

Thanks kf.

Fred reads a lot like Joe. We used to hang around with Thompson decades ago in Colorado. There was always an odd cast of characters, all socialist or communist. I only kept contact with one, my closest friend who died a few years ago. Her and her poet husband spent a decade in Mexico, living on beer, weed, and charm.

The whole crowd was too "tune in drop out turn on" for me.

Blaming capitalism is an easy "cop out." Capitalism is not what keeps folks "poor" all their lives.
