Bush The Uniter

I'll be damned, the Boy Texan is a uniter. Iran and Iraq have agreed to cooperate in military and anti-terror fields, defense ministers of the two countries said at a meeting in Tehran yesterday (July 7). Iraqi Defense Minister Sadoun al-Dulaimi states it's a new chapter in the relationship between the two countries. Iran's defense minister, Rear Adm. Ali Shamkhani, called the pact to train the Iraqi military "a new chapter" in relations between the two countries.

U.S. military spokesmen in Baghdad and Lt. Gen. David H. Petraeus, who is in charge of the training program, declined to comment on Iraq's deal with overwhelmingly Shiite Iran. Petraeus, from his Green Zone HQ did say recently the Iraqi forces are "now ready to fight" having been mostly cured of the "tiny heart syndrome" (unwillingness to face combat).

Our Mr. Rumsfeld has stated "Iran should be on notice; efforts to try to remake Iraq in Iran's image will be aggressively put down." But that was said two years ago. Since Condi Rice's surprise Iraq visit this past May the tone has softened a bit with Rice stating she hoped there would be good relationships between Iran and Iraq. Did Condi help the boys in the 'hood play nice? Wonder how many US dollars goes to Iran for the "new chapter" in training Iraqi forces?
