According to Arms Control Center's terrorism timeline acts attributed to Islamic jihadists are as follows:

April 18, 1983: Sixty three people, including the CIA's Middle East Director, are killed and 120 injured in a 400 lb. suicide truck bomb attack on the US Embassy in Beirut, Lebanon. The driver is killed. Responsibility is claimed by Islamic Jihad. October 23, 1983: Simultaneous suicide truck bombs on American and French compounds in Beirut, Lebanon. A 12,000 lb bomb destroys a US Marine Corps base killing two hundred and forty one Americans; another fifty eight Frenchmen are killed when a 400 lb device destroys one of their bases. Islamic Jihad claims responsibility. March 16, 1984: CIA station chief in Beirut, Lebanon, William Buckley, was kidnapped by the Iranian backed Islamic Jihad. He was tortured and then executed by his captors. March 16, 1985: US journalist Terry Anderson is kidnapped in Beirut, Lebanon, by Iranian backed Islamic radicals. He is released in December 1991. June 9, 1985: US academic, Thomas Sutherland, at the American University, Beirut, Lebanon kidnapped by Islamic terrorists and held until November 18, 1991. September 12, 1985: US academic at the American University in Beirut, Joseph Cicippio, seized in Beirut by Iranian backed Islamic terrorists. He is released on December 1, 1991. October 21, 1985: American businessman Edward Tracy kidnapped in Lebanon by Islamic terrorists and held for almost five years until August 11, 1991. January 24, 1987: American citizens Jesse Turner and Alann Steen were seized in Beirut by Islamic terrorists. Turner was held until October 22, 1991 and Steen is released on 3 December 3, 1991. April 14, 1988: The Organization of Jihad Brigades exploded a car bomb outside a USO Club in Naples, Italy, killing one U.S. sailor. February 26, 1993: World Trade Center in New York, USA, attacked by a massive bomb planted by Islamic terrorists. June 25, 1996: Islamic radical terrorists opposed to the western military presence in the Gulf region, explode a truck bomb next to a USAF housing area at Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, killing 19 American servicemen and 385 injuring more. November 12, 1997: Two unidentified gunmen shot to death four U.S. auditors from Union Texas Petroleum Corporation and their Pakistani driver after they drove away from the Sheraton Hotel in Karachi. The Islami Inqilabi Council, or Islamic Revolutionary Council, claimed responsibility in a call to the U.S. Consulate in Karachi. In a letter to Pakistani newspapers, the Aimal Khufia Action Committee also claimed responsibility. August 7, 1998: US Embassies in Nairobi, Kenya, and Dar-es-Salem, Tanzania, heavily damaged by massive bomb attacks. US intelligence blames Islamic groups linked to Saudi dissident Osama Bin Laden. (Note he's a dissident, no mention of Al-Queda.) August 12, 2000: In the Kara-Su Valley, the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan took four U.S. citizens hostage. The Americans escaped on August 12. October 12, 2000: In Aden, Yemen, a small dingy carrying explosives rammed the destroyer U.S.S. Cole, killing 17 sailors and injuring 39 others. Supporters of Usama Bin Ladin were suspected. (Still no mention of Al-Queda.) December 30, 2000: A bomb exploded in a plaza across the street from the U.S. embassy in Manila, injuring nine persons. The Moro Islamic Liberation Front is allegedly responsible.

Previous Islamic targets were military or CIA related, journalists, diplomats, academia, businessmen (all suspected of being CIA operatives). The "Islamic terrorists" now have multiple names; a new unknown group claiming responsibility with each attack but always connected to Al-Queda. In 1993 the WTC attack never mentioned bin Laden or Al-Queda. Other than the 1993 attack by an Islamic group, attacks were "over there" until 2001. Some analysts suggested the first WTC attack was connected to the Gulf War, in retaliation. One of the 1993 WTC bombers told a Secret Service agent he "would have put sodium cyanide into the WTC bomb if he had had enough money..." There was an attempt back then to connect the '93 attack to Iraq/Saddam, after the bombers placed a Ford van in the basement of the WTC in hopes that toppling the towers would create massive death (6 died); unknown to the terrorists was how neatly the towers would collapse into their own footprints as happened in 2001.

The jihad began the millenium with resources to simultaneously hijack planes and plant multiple bombs under the Western world's trillion dollar high-tech noses, and hundreds of intel agencies, at home and abroad, are unable to hand the media anyone more sinister than the lone nut Richard Reid fumbling with matches, rather than using a Bic, in an attempt to fire up his tennis shoes.

Without a clue to Western leaders, the "Islamic groups" were no longer content with ramming US ships with a dingy, not satisified with grabbing CIA station chiefs or business men. The jihad has now changed its target to the masses; the very people who will demand more militarism and pay up more money for government protection. There's a phrase: "Kill the people and they send more soldiers, kill the soldiers and they go home." Guess the wealthy jihadist masterminds never heard that maxim as they seem to be doing it backasswards.
