Meltdown Missions

Progressives are scaring themselves again.

PI picked the story up from DemocracyNow.

DemocracyNow picked it up from ArmyTimes where writers often hint of supposed-to-be-scary new government robogrunt programs are being prepared for the masses (you), but how many times do I have to tell you ArmyTimes is not affiliated with the Army, the government, or the military - but is a product of Gannett (ticker symbol GCI).

And of course DailyKos blogs the ArmyTimes story as: Army Unit To Deploy For Domestic Operations.

ArmyTimes: "The 3rd Infantry Division’s 1st Brigade Combat Team has spent 35 of the last 60 months in Iraq patrolling in full battle rattle, helping restore essential services and escorting supply convoys. Now they’re training for the same mission — with a twist — at home.

... this new mission marks the first time an active unit has been given a dedicated assignment to NorthCom, a joint command established in 2002 to provide command and control for federal homeland defense efforts and coordinate defense support of civil authorities."

Hmmmm. Yes, NorthCom was established in 2002 but Joint Task Force Civil Support (JTF-CS) was established in 1999.

ArmyTimes hint: "They may be called upon to help with civil unrest and crowd control..."

That's right folks, when the country collapses "they" are ready for ya, lest you rise up and assault them with your diet soda and keyboards.

werent these the same progressives who screamed/begged bush to send the army into new orleans after katrina?

here's some facts:
the law forbids the executive from sending troops into domestic situations unless first requested by the governor of that state.
katrina: bush was waiting by the phone, the governor never called.
the governor was then informed troops would not be coming without her request (per the law). still, she was too busy to make the request in a timely manner.
finally, she did, and bush sent the troops, who he had already waiting on stand by.

Hi Kate,

Thanks for providing us with a place to leave comments. Its a really great way to give feedback of some sort on items.

Also, I wanted to say that I attempted to start a blog and cooled on the idea when I realized how much work it would be. So now I am happy to chime in with my two cents here in your comments section. Maybe at some point I will go back to it.

Your site is entertaining and informative on subjects I would never even think of. The world has a refreshing writer in you.

Kate,
I'm looking at the front page of your blog. How did you get up in that tree? Anyway today I took a ride over to the County Democratic Election center to get a vote for OBAMA sign for our front lawn. They didn't have any. I was told they have been waiting for over a month and none have arrived. Whats up?

gino -
one of the mantras I recall from Katrina is it was a mess b/c all the LA national guardsmen were in Iraq - truth is of the 11,000 NG in LA 3000 were deployed, with 8000 at home at the time. But why let facts get in the way of a good bash on the opposition.

anon,
Thanks. I've been out of sorts all summer and into the fall but hopefully that will pass. Maybe it's writer's block. :)

I must say with the internet I've come to realize how shallow, self-serving, and 2-faced political "activists" really are - enough to make me want to bury my head in the garden mulch.

syd,
I think I climbed, it's been so long ago, I was 16. Time flies.

I was just remarking to my daughter yesterday out running errands that there are so few Obama yard signs here in Podunkville. But there are also very very few McCain signs.

But - if Obama & Co. cannot manage having yard signs available and aplenty - well ..... :)

I think most folks are just tired of presidential politics, probably even the guy who was charged with producing the signs.
