Papa Simeus

Dumas Simeus, Haitian businessman, seeks office of President of Haiti. Or, seeks office as overseer of the plantation for the US. Mr. Simeus, now 65, left Haiti 44 years ago but believes as a successful businessman in the food industry, with connections in Texas and Florida, he can run Haiti like a good business should be run. Haven't we heard that argument before?

Simeus founded Haiti's first investment bank, PromoCapital. Promo bank is headquartered in Petionville, Haiti with representatives in D.C. and Aventura, Florida. PromoCapital investors are the Haitian elite and business class; a ruling sack of tastefully designed thugs who have never been regarded highly for their ethics or their concern for the public good of Haiti. Remember proxy US dictators - Papa Doc Duvalier and his son Baby Doc (known as Uncle Sam's Hammer and Sickle respectively) held their fellow Haitians in bondage for decades. Another fine example of US democracy at the end of a gun, or rubber necklace.

Simeus' assets were frozen briefly in the early '90s as suspect of being a coup backer in the 1991 overthrow of President Aristide. He, and most of the other individuals connected to PromoCapital are suspected of backing the more recent coup and violence. But hell, let's not use suspected and alleged, we know they are the coup backers.

Roger Noriega, Bush's Asst. Secretary for Western Hemisphere Affairs, has spent his career more than eager and willing to do what's necessary to further US elite interests in Latin America. In the 1980s Noriega was directly in charge of channeling aid to the Contras-sometimes laundering the aid through an operative of Colombia's Medellin drug cartel residing in Miami. Likely Noriega was somewhere behind the 2004 coup of Aristide since the "freedom fighters" were trained next door in the Dominican Republic with CIA.

The HERO act (Haiti Economic Recovery Opportunity Act of 2004), being pushed by Mr. Simeus and the consortium of Haitian elite, is of course promising to bring peace and prosperity and democracy to Haiti but actually nothing more than the usual legislation to aid wealthy investors in their control of a third world economy, a.k.a. making the economic rape of other countries legal, a.k.a. raping and looting by the elite : or rich folks who "find" things all over the world.

And for all those neoliberals who believe Democrats are helping the cause of democracy and the plight of the poor note who co-sponsored the HERO act : Rep. John F. Conyers, Jr., along with Reps. Clay Shaw (R-FL, Clay Shaw…hmmm), Charlie Rangel (D-NY), Philip Crane (R-IL), Kendrick Meek (D-FL), Porter Goss (R-FL), Barbara Lee (D-CA), Mark Foley (R-FL), Maxine Waters (D-CA), Donna Christensen (D-VI), Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX), and Diane Watson (D-CA).

Bankers and businessmen and politicians ... I can smell the corporate rewards and campaign contributions from here.

"Second, I challenge you to find Simeus' name ANYWHERE on the list of individuals whose assets were frozen by the US."

You're correct. It was not Simeus as an individual but the bank he had his hand in. 08/18/94: The names of ninety (90) entities and twenty-four (24) individuals, originally released by the Office of Foreign Assets Control "General Notice No. 9: Notification of blocked Entities and Blocked Individuals of Haiti" on August 2, 1994 pursuant to Executive Order 12922 of June 21, 1994, have been integrated into the master SDN list as "Blocked Persons of Haiti." Three additional entities designated on August 18, 1994 as "Blocked Persons of Haiti" under the same Excutive Order have
also been included : BANQUE DE PROMOTION COMMERCIALE ET INDUSTRIELLE S.A. (a.k.a.PROMOBANK; f.k.a. BANQUE NATIONALE DE PARIS SA; f.k.a. BNP); Rue 17 Boulevard, Cap Haitien, Haiti. treas.gov/offices

As for the rest of your huffing, and since you seem to hold such expertise, I challenge you to prove your points, or blow it out you butt, whichever you prefer. BTW, Simeus obviously still considers himself Haitian as much as a Haitian-American as he continually reiterates he's Haitian in his bid to run for president of Haiti, which has been rejected by Haiti just this past weekend. And you clearly haven't read much of this blog or you wouldn't be lumping me into the "all look alike" category.

Chantal,
I appreciate the feedback and the optimism.

Personally I find it odd, and questionable, how those on the "left" and who have been in politics for decades, have so little impact on the handbasket the country has been traveling in.

They may not be in collusion, may sincerely seek what they claim in their speeches, yet still we've seen a steady decline in American society, jobs, education, income. An increase in prisons, family breakdown, drugs, corruption.

Waters has used her clout (as all pols do) to aid family members. While that is not illegal b/c pols make it legal, it smells bad.

As I've mentioned, it seems to me most of America's vocal progressive opposition seems a mere token "left." Afterall, it's safe to be "anti-" or pro-something when it carries no personal price to pay; when one knows it will affect little change or threat to the status quo.

If you are depending on "Haiti Democracy Project" as your one source of information. You are being misled.

They use that moniker very cynically... it is a spin and "empirespeak" such as is typical of the Bush Administration and it's right-wing nut imperialist.

HDP is "headed by James Morrell and funded by the right-wing Haitian Boulos family".

Not sure whose response you're responding to - but yes the HDP is a front for empire and not a source I'd use.

I'm responding to YOU Kate. Are you not even concerned or aware of who you get your information from?

You put a link that references the HDP website as your proof that Maxine Waters "used her clout to aid family members."

All I can say is that it makes me think that Maxine is having a positive effect for good... when the HDP start to attack her and her family.

Shame on you for buying into their propaganda.

Maxine Waters kin cashing in was printed in multiple papers. The HDP copy from the LA Times just the most convenient in my search.

On the contrary, the HDP was not attacking Conyers but touting his support of the HERO project.

Shame on you for buying into heroism and not having better comprehension skills.

This article appears in the right-wing media (i.e. washington times and HDP website) which does not prove to me that the LA Times was the originator of the article.

So do you have the hard copy of these "multiple papers?" If you profess a distain for the HDP ("a front for empire")... why refer to their site at all for legit information?

I repeat, Maxine is my Hero.

I never mentioned Congressmember Conyers and the HDP in the same breath... so I don't know why you bring them up in this context?

If you want proof that other papers besides LA Times, Moonie Times, published the Waters info - you'll have to do your own homework.

Simply b/c any MSM bends more right or left doesn't prove the information is right or wrong.

Do you have hard copies proving Waters family did not benefit from her political position?

Empire-speak, cronyism, hubris, nepotism, etc. is not unique to Bush, neocons, and/or republicans.

I have no problem with you considering Waters a hero - but I'll stick to gazing at her as just another politician, albeit perhaps less harmful than others.

So you are backing off of your comment "shame on you for buying into heroism?" Good. I like to pick my on heros.

Also, I don't think my comprehension skills are lacking. But you seem to get pretty lost at times.

Attacking some members of the Congressional Black Caucus as a source of "empire-speak, cronyism, hubris, nepotism..." speaks to me of YOUR lack of comprehension of how the U.S. has gotten to state that it is in. You want to lump them into the same basket with the neocons and republicans? You've got to be kidding!!

Again, you did not list a legit source for the nepotism you site for Maxine Waters. So until you do, I will have my reservations.

By the way, I don't dispute your position on Dumas Simeus, he is definitely an agent for the neo-cons and empire-building.

But as Mr. Jasmin points out "you are reporting second-hand, biased information".

I have to point out here that what you refer to as the "Moonie Times" is a derogatory term for the Washington Times and their founding by the Rev. Sun Myung Moon of the Unification Church.
