I had to laugh at the cacophonic knot in some left leaning knickers over this story. I just can't sympathize with the fuss because it looks like another Saturday night in the 'hood. Except in the 'hood the po-leese slap everyone around, step on necks, press pistol and machine-gun muzzles to the head, ransack the home and on occasion, for dramatic effect, shoot the pet dog. Then tazer and arrest a couple of guys for having a few joints. Isn't this the way they usually break-up white folks parties too?

They don't look like police. They look like army. I know there's less and less distinction these days in militarised police state Amerika but if troops were "policing" "the hood" shouldn't that be news too?

SWAT, FBI, DEA teams have looked militarized for more than a decade now. BDUs, machine guns, same equipment and gear, etc. Most all areas have police paramilitary units (PPUs), Special Response Teams (SRTs). The units get their "practice" in Black communities. Sometimes known as "ghetto storm." Yes, it should be news, a lot of things should be news.
We have militarised police in the UK now too, but they still wear police uniforms, albeit of the Star Wars stormtrooper with Heckler and Koche ensemble variety. They are visibly police, even if the have no ID badges
and anonymysing face visors. The Utah ravebusters looked like regular army

Some of the attacks on Sheehan are ludricous. I'm still not convinced her grief isn't being manipulated. I find it interesting she is compared to Black women of history. Her situation is a son who died for a neocon political agenda, which many Americans consider a just cause.
The Civil Rights Movement was never about MLK. The left has let the neocons have a single target in a personality; the message of their being war criminals is lost.
I hope the protests grow.

P.S. Remember too it was many many years after Till's death and Rosa's refusal before any change came about. The country may not have that much time now.

Police are the buffer between the haves and have-nothings. Little purpose outside of harrassing drunks, prostitutes, and small time drug dealers.
A study I read years ago profiling cops stated one must have a repressed sadist personality. And that "normal" folks usually left the force after an average of 7 years.
